Yes! I really meant what I wrote.

This has to be my favourite chocolate. I have fond childhood memories of sitting in the car as dad parked outside the off-licence waiting for mum to get his 2 cans of larger. Me and my sister would always ask for a treat "mum! Can I have a can of cherry coke and a galaxy ripple, please." The taste and the texture is still fairly similar now to how it was back then.

Over the years the quality of chocolate from mainstream brands such as Cadbury are really no different to the quality of taste you get in a generic supermarket brand. Don't get me wrong I could still say that Cadbury's dairy milk tastes better, however in comparison to Galaxy it's not the behemoth it once was in my childhood. Any dairy milk bar now tastes bland, oily and the cocoa flavour simply lacks. The regular Galaxy bar still has far more flavour and the smooth texture of the chocolate melts on your tongue.

It's time to bring the defendant to the stand. Here is the case for galaxy ripple being the chocolate that makes everything better.

Your honour there are many different ways you can enjoy a galaxy ripple.

  • It can be consumed at room temperature straight out of the pack. There's a slight crumble of chocolate but not to the point where it disintegrates over the floor like a Cadbury's flake.

  • The chocolate is smooth in texture and inside the ripple has a lovely velvety pattern that's worthy of the name it's been given.

  • Putting a ripple in the fridge will drastically enhance its quality of experience. When it's cold you're able to hear the crunch of the chocolate and feel the cold crumbly bits melt on your tongue. This adds a new layer to the sensory experience during consumption.

  • Dunking it in a hot drink combines the flavour of the drink whilst melting the chocolate to provide a silky warm blanket on your tongue. Be wary of using it as a straw to drink with because mine have on occasion fallen into my tea cup.

  • It makes a wonderful accompaniment to an ice cream dessert much like a 99 with a flake.

Honestly it is my secret addiction. Eating it slowly is relaxing but if you rush it and eat too many ripples at once you end up with a sore throat and stomach ache.

Moderation is key! Making a special time where you can enjoy eating it without interruptions improves the experience. I try eating it slowly and not rushing it. If you take your time you can come to appreciate the flavours, textures and patterns. Try eating it cold, warm and hot. And if you don't like galaxy ripple, tell me in the comments what's your go to chocolate and why?
